Jim Carrey Could Face Trial Over The Death Of His Girlfriend
Jim Carrey may face trial for the death of his girlfriend Cathriona White after a judge revealed she was not yet ready to throw out a case brought by White’s mother and ex-husband.
Brigid Sweetman, Ms White’s mother, has claimed that Carrey, 55, provided the prescription drugs that White later overdosed on. However, Carrey’s lawyer has filed a motion to dismissed the case.
After the hearing, Carrey's lawyer said: ‘Mr Carrey loved Ms White dearly and so obviously it will be a very painful process for him.’
However, the judge has said that she wants to continue to study the issues further and is not ready to issue a ruling.
White’s death was ruled as suicide by the LA Country Coroner's office in July 2016.
Days before White’s death, her relationship with Carrey ended and he text messaged her the night before asking about a bottle of painkillers that had gone missing.
Bottles next to her bed were later revealed to be under the pseudonym Arthur
According to ET, the report states: ‘Given this, it appears likely that the bottles for ‘Arthur King’ found on [White’s] bedside table were the prescriptions he was referring to [in the text message].’
The Liar Liar actor has denied all allegations, with his lawyers saying they are ‘predatory’ and ‘malicious’.
