Aussies Are Not Happy After Massive Awards Show Snub

The National Board of Review and the Gotham Awards have snubbed the continent of Australia. The two major pre-Oscar film awards caused Aussie stars Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and even ‘Wolverine’ actor Hugh Jackman to suffer blows to their Oscar campaigns.

A win at either event is considered important for building momentum and raising the profiles of stars ahead of the Oscars and other major awards such as the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild.

Not only did our precious actors and actress miss out on wins but Australia’s best directing candidates Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and Warwick Thornton (Sweet Country) also came up empty-handed at the NBR and Gotham.

Kidman (The Beguiled; Killing of a Sacred Deer), Jackman (The Greatest Showman; Logan), Robbie (I, Tonya), Naomi Watts (The Glass Castle), Jason Calrke (Mudhound) and Ben Mendelssohn (The Darkest Hour) were all snubbed in their respective categories. However, the NBR did give Jackman’s Logan a tiny bit of a lift by naming it one of the year’s top 10 films.

Honored to learn #Logan has been named one of the 10 Best Films of 2017 by the National Board of Review. @nbrfilm
