Kate Middleton Reveals Her Struggles As A Mother
The Duchess of Cambridge has opened up about motherhood, admitting it has been ‘lonely’ for her at times.
During a school visit with Prince William and Prince Harry, Kate Middleton told the group, “it is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated but actually, so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through.”
Kate's discussion comes off the back of Prince William and Lady Gaga’s launch of their mental health awareness campaign #oktosay.
She went on to explain how normal it is to occasionally feel like your life has been turned upside down after having a child.
“Becoming a mother has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience, however at times it’s also been a huge challenge.”
“Even for me, who has support at home, that most mothers do not, nothing can really prepare you for the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother.”
“Your fundamental identity changes overnight, you go from thinking of yourself as primarily an individual, to suddenly being a mother, first and foremost.”
The mum-of-two spoke candidly to the group, highlighting that the triumphs and tribulations of motherhood affects mothers from all walks of life.
She applauded other mothers for their abilities to seek help when they felt the kind of isolation she sometimes feels.
“It is being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out to those around you.”
