Kiernan Shipka Is Your New Edgy Sabrina The Teenage Witch
Those of you familiar with Mad Men will already know who Kiernan Shipka is. For those of you scratching your head in confusion, she’s the one who played the badass junior Sally Draper.
Still not sure who she is?
Well, it won’t be long till you’re totally obsessed with her as she has been cast to star as Sabrina Spellman in the upcoming Netflix adaption of The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. The show is set to be a dark companion series to the teen drama Riverdale.
The graphic novel The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is published by Archie Comics and is very different from the fun 90s television comedy Sabrina The Teenage Witch that many of us grew up with.
The official plot description describes the show to be a “dark coming-of-age story [that] deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and we will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.”
Sabrina Spellman has been tipped to be, “… an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all the stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.”
“We are all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredible excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own,” said Archie Comis Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
The series is yet to gain an official title but the one-hour drama series has an initial order of 20 episodes.
Let’s just hope they keep some of the Salem attitude from the 90s Sabrina The Teenage Witch!
