Mrs Doubtfire Is Being Turned Into A Broadway Musical
Mrs Doubtfire might not have been the biggest whiz in the kitchen, those fake boobs burnt to a crisp sure proved this, it turns out that she may have been destined for a life in broadway!
Our favourite Scottish housekeeper is heading to the big stage with reports that the classic Robin Williams movie is getting a reboot as a musical! And we couldn’t possibly be more excited right now!!
If for some reason you haven’t seen the classic original film, and just saying we definitely think that this is what you should spend your weekend doing if you haven’t, the movie follows the story of a struggling actor (Williams) who devices a plan to keep close to his kids after his wife decides to separate from him.
The father decides to pose as an elderly, female, Scottish housekeeper, who is hired by his ex-wife, to clean the house and look after the kids. And while it might sound like a bit of a spoof it was actually an incredibly uplifting film.
The film also did wonders for Robin Williams’ career after it landed him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Knowing that Mrs Doutbfire was one of Robin Williams best characters has no doubt left some big shoes to fill, but according to reports a Tony Award-winning team is attempting to take on the task and has already started production.
It’s reported that the writers behind Something Rotten!, John O’Farrell, Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick are creating the new stage musical based on the story, with O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick writing the book while the Kirkpatrick brothers will write the score.
The broadway-bound production is also set to be directed by Jerry Zaks and presented by Fox Stage Productions. The producers Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen recently released a joint statement about the musical saying that creating the production has been “pure joy”.
“Mrs. Doubtfire is such beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving. Getting this team together and crafting Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”
We can't wait for this to hit the stage! In fact as soon as tickets go on sale this will be us:
Anyone else feel like having a Robin Williams movie marathon right about now?
