QLD Bachelorette Contestant To Face Court On Assault Charges

It wouldn't be a new season of the Bachelor franchise without some scandal.

Although normally we'd at least get partway into the first episode before things explode.

Turns out one of Ali Oetjen's potential suitors, 42-year-old Damien Gilbert Rider is set to face court on assault charges.

The Gold Coast local allegedly got into trouble after jumping the fence at music festival Splendour In The Grass at approximately 10:45pm and assaulted a security guard.

Christopher Yousif reportedly then threatened Rider with a plank of wood and kicked him before he was arrested.

Rider made his first appearance in the Byron Bay Local Court in September and will return to court on Monday, October 15.

The 42-year-old runs a charity helping victims of abuse, called The Rider Foundation, drawing on his own personal history as the victim of child abuse.

Ali Oetjen's season of The Bachelorette premieres tonight on Channel 10.
