We Have The First Official Photo From Avatar 2!
It has been eight years - eight years! - since we were first introduced to James Cameron's blue-hued world of Pandora, and now the highly anticipated sequel has finally begun filming.
But as photos of the newest members of the cast dropped online, so too did some plot secrets and it seems like we're going to be in for a very different movie.
For starters, there's quite a number of young stars stepping into the film to play what producer Jon Landau says is a "very significant role".
"We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film," he told EW.
"They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role - not just in this movie, but throughout all the movies."
By all the movies, Landau means the four confirmed sequels Cameron has in the pipeline.
According to EW, the kids play the offspring of Jake Scully and Neytiri (Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana respectively, who are both slated to return) and other inhabitants of Pandora.
There'll also be a new tribe in the upcoming flicks; the Metkayina live on islands in the open ocean, rather than in the forest like the Na'Vi we're used to, which may mean they look slightly different to their tree-dwelling peers.
Unfortunately for us, we'll have to wait until December 2020 for Avatar 2 to hit cinemas.
Hopefully we get some more hints and on-set gossip in the meantime to tide us over!
