Bad News: Your Dog Hates Being Hugged!
It's the news all dog owners don't want to hear.
Animal psychologists have revealed that dogs get stressed and unhappy when they are embraced by their owners because it stops them from being able to runaway.
In a study, which analysed 250 pictures of dogs being hugged, it said that eight out of 10 animals looked uncomfortable.
Experts at The Kennel Club and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, also agreed saying that owners should not treat their dogs like children, as most dogs don't like being cuddled.
The new study was carried out by Dr Stanley Coren, a canine experr from the University of British Colombia.
He analysed mages he found on the internet of dogs being hugged by adults and children, looking for signs of stress.
He said that when dogs are anxious, it will bare its teeth or may bite but there are other ''subtle indicators'' that may mean it's uncomfortable.
Signs of stress include the dog folding its ears down, half-moon eyes or turning it's head away to avoid eye contact. If the dog has it's eyes closed or is licking it's lips it could be a sign of anxiety.
So.. what am I supposed to do with my dog now?
