Fatal Error Costs Dad And Daughter Their Lives
It appears a reckless decision to avoid an RBT has cost a teenage father and his young daughter their lives.
Alex Peart was waiting in line to be breath tested on the Tasman Highway, when he made the split second decision to do a U-turn and flee.
Sadly he lost control of his Holden Vectra smashing into a nearby pole. The car was engulfed in flames and both he and his two-year-old daughter Ruby were killed.
His girlfriend Xanna Rose Weavell was in the passenger seat at the time and was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say both Mr Peart and Ms Weavell were thrown through the windscreen of the vehicle and landed on the road.
'The driver was declared deceased at the scene. The female passenger was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital,' a police spokesperson said.
Police are investigating the horror crash and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
