Giant Aussie Spider Hitches Ride To England , Poms Freak Out
Australia's reputation for having some of the biggest and scariest creepy crawlies has been confirmed by some scardey-cats in England after a huntsman spider was found to have stowed away in a box of goods that was packed in Brisbane.
Measuring 18 centimeters, the huntsman spider somehow survived a three-month, 16,000km journey to end up in Surrey in rural England.
Removalist David Aldridge told the BBC:
"I had three guys unloading, one ran about two miles up the road when he first saw it."
And how the arachnid survived the trip, Aldridge speculates that "from the empty locust shells found in the container it seems he has thankfully been able to find food during that length of time, but it's a long time to go without water, and he's lucky he didn't get squished by any boxes or furniture."
The 55 year old went on: "He's a handsome, furry guy. I caught him in a lunch box and took him home for my six-year-old son to see while waiting for the RSPCA to pick him up."
Good work for not squashing him David!
We're sure that like most other Aussies who end up in England, this spider be pulling beers in a pub and making fun of the locals idea of what a proper hot summer is very soon!
