Heartbreaking News For Hey Hey Star Red Symons

Incredibly tragic news today for Skyhooks guitarist, television star and radio broadcaster, Red Symons, with the passing of his son Samuel aged just 27.

Samuel, Red's eldest son, battled cancer almost his entire life after he was first diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was just four years old, and at 11 was operated on for thyroid cancer.

Then, at 16, he developed another brain tumour

The following statement was issued today:

'It is with the deepest sadness Red announces the passing of his beautiful son Samuel Symons. Samuel passed peacefully overnight surrounded by his family. We ask that you please respect the privacy of Red and his family at this very sad and difficult time.'

Red Symons was guitarist for Skyhooks playing on the acclaimed albums ‘Living In The 70s’,  ‘Ego Is Not A Dirty Word’ and ‘Straight In A Gay Gay World’

In the 1980s, Red made a name for himself as the snarky judge of Red Faces on Hey Hey Its Saturday.
