Putting Your Christmas Decor Up Early Makes You Happier
There's an age old question. When should you put your Christmas decorations up?
If you've got kids, the earlier the better. If you're single and live alone, do you even put them up at all??
Some families don't quite make it to putting last year's away and others, untangling their fairy lights may bring you to the morning of...
Well, for those who hold off switching on those festive lights until the last week of December, you might want to consider putting your tree and tinsel up sooner rather than later.
A new study has found that people who put up their festive displays earlier are much happier and excited about life, according to The Mirror.
"Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect," Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown said. "In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood."
"Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extend the excitement!"
Interestingly enough, people who have welcoming homes with tons of decorations, are seen as more "friendly and cohesive".
Christmas decorations spark feelings of warmth and nostalgia, and they can make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
"It may be a bittersweet feeling," McKeown said. "Perhaps the holidays serve as a reminder of when a loved one was still alive. Or maybe looking at a Christmas tree reminds someone of what life was like when they still believed in Santa."
So maybe time to rethink your christmas timeline and get decorating!
