Real Life Creepy Clown Sightings Are Terrifying People

It’s the stuff of nightmares. A dark subway, a knife wielding clown. But, this was the reality for a 16-year-old New Yorker who joins the growing number of people who bizarrely claim to have been confronted by clowns.

Police say the man dressed as a clown was standing in the doorway of the train in an attempt to prevent people from exiting. It’s alleged he then chased the teen towards the exit, sparking a police search for the masked man.

In early August reports began surfacing in South Carolina of masked figures lurking in the woods attempting to lure children. Clown sightings have been on the rise ever since, but police are unwilling to play into speculation labelling reports ‘unfounded.’

There have been sightings reported all over the country, including North Carolina, Alabama, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon and New York.  Clown related mayhem peaked to a worrying level this week, when hundreds of students rioted at Penn State university conducting a ‘hunt’ after rumour spread that a clown may be amongst them in the area. Students were heard chanting ‘F**k the clown.’

The NYPD were forced to issue a statement after a photo of a man wielding a rifle on a railroad bridge 100km north of New York City emerged. NYPD’s terror chief, John Miller said, ‘Don’t be afraid of the clowns.’

Despite pleas from police, it appears the sightings have stirred up emotions in the community and with Halloween drawing closer, many are on edge. It’s been reported that schools have even sent out warning letters to parents and students and the issue was raised at a White House media briefing.

'Obviously, this is a situation that local law enforcement authorities take quite seriously and they should carefully and thoroughly review, you know, perceived threats to the safety of the community and they should do so prudently,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

The clown community of America (who knew there was such  thing!) is attempting to change the current perception after fears the sightings may have tarnished the image of performers. They’ve organised a clown march on October 15 to show that clowns are not ‘psycho killers.’ We don’t know if this is a good idea considering the current climate!
