The Depressing Reason We're Spending Less This Christmas
If you’re worried about how much money you’re going to spend on gifts this Christmas, don’t worry – the pressure is off.
Christmas spending is predicted to take a dive this year.
Because there’s literally less joy in the world. *forced smile*
The head of the Australian Retail Association, Russell Zimmerman, said that people are less confident to spend money this year.
“Consumers are concerned about world affairs, plus affairs happening in Australia, and that doesn’t give them the confidence to spend money.” Mr Zimmerman said.
Aussies spent more than 48 billion in the lead up to the holiday in 2016, but retailers are being warned not to expect the same level this year.
Mr Zimmerman also says that energy prices and the cost of living are both contributing factors.
