This QLD Shopping Centre Is About To Get Paid Parking
Let’s face it, Lutwyche shopping centre is looking a little tired and is well and truly due for a facelift.
According to News Corp the centre is about to undergo a $40 million refurbishment with the inclusion of paid parking.
A spokeswoman for the centre said that the last upgrade Lutwyche saw was in 2002 of the food court, so these renovations are well overdue.
“In prior years, and under the previous ownership, there has been a lack of capital investment which has caused restlessness amongst retailers and local residents,” the spokesperson said.
“Whilst residential developments form a driver of the population growth other considerations also contribute to the necessity to redevelopment the centre.”
The refurbishment will include updated shop fit outs, an improved car park and lighting as well as a new trolley friendly travelator to replace the centre's current escalators.
While we’re all ecstatic about another new and improved shopping centre, the upgrade looks to also include the installation of a paid parking system.
“A decision has not been finalised, the availability and ease of parking is critically important to our customers,” the spokeswoman said.
“We need to ensure that the maximum parking spaces are available for our guests and not commuters and this will include the possibility of introducing controlled parking into the centre, which will ultimately improve parking and convenience for our customers.”
The refurbishment won’t be completed until 2019, so regardless of the potential frustration, don’t panic just yet!
