What On Earth Is Wrong With Nick Kyrgios?!
If it’s possible, Nick Kyrgios has stirred up MORE controversy. The 21-year-old was recently issued an 8-week ban from the ATP and slapped with a hefty $32,900 fine after tanking during his match at the Shanghai Masters.
There was hope his ban would be reduced significantly after Tennis Australia announced Kyrgios had agreed to consult with a sports psychologist.
“Nick’s health and wellbeing is a priority and the ATP has offered a reduced penalty on the provision that he seeks appropriate professional advice, which he has agreed to do,” the statement claimed.
“Nick understands the gravity of his actions, has shown remorse and expressed a willingness to improve.”
But Nick has back flipped on his decision, signalling via a Q&A on Twitter that he will not be seeing a psychologist.
While it’s unclear if the young gun was joking, when asked by a fan to confirm if he will consult a sports psychologist during his suspension, Kyrgios responded: “probs not.”
It comes after the 21-year-old issued a public apology for tanking during his match against German Mischa Zverez at the Shanghai Masters, suggesting it may not have been as sincere as first thought.
