Trouble Sleeping? This Robot That Breathes Should Help.

I'm sure (hope) that I'm not the only one who finds the breathing of your partner while they sleep reassuring*.  On the couch or when you've turned in for the night, the rhythm and the knowledge that they're doing okay helps reassure you that everything is going to be fine.

And now a company in the Netherlands has developed a robot pillow that mimics that movement, plus does some other fancy stuff, but I'M CONFLICTED BECAUSE LOOK AT IT AND SKYNET STUFF.

Firstly, I'm sure they've done everything they can to keep it non-threatening and un-creepy.  It doesn't have a face, it doesn't look like a human.  Great.  But it DOES look a lot like a giant larva, and when it hatches, we're going to have a big problem.

As for the features, it "breathes" like your bedroom companion, plus has soothing sounds like lullabies and guided meditation and also provides "affection" (with very little explanation on what that might be).  There's an app you can use to control all the different features and set your preferences.  Plus, you know, it's a pillow you can hug.

It promises to reduce stress and anxiety, help you fall asleep faster, sleep longer and let you wake up naturally.

Here's a video that shows it in action, set to jaunty music and featuring people who wake up with the hair immaculate.

If you're into it, you can back their IndieGoGo campaign.  Have fun incubating our new Alien Masters.

* I mean "a" partner.  "My" partner specifically.  I probably shouldn't have written "your".  I would never disrespect either of you like that.  Xox.
