You Won’t Believe The Baby Names People Regret!

You’d think it would be the more unusual baby names parents would regret later in life.

But apparently not!

According to a Mumsnet survey, 18 per cent of parents regretted their baby’s name… with a quarter of them claiming it’s because the name is too popular.

Names like Charlotte, Amelia, Daniel and James would seem like safe bets in the naming stakes.

However, it seems that once parents realise they share the schoolyard with multiple Charlottes, Amelias, Daniels and James, well the regret soon starts to sink in.

Twenty-one per cent of people surveyed said their baby’s name just didn’t feel right, while another 20 per cent said they were pressured into using the name.

Other complaints included the name not being distinctive enough, problems with spelling and pronunciation, it not suiting the baby and people using a not-so-likeable nickname.

While nine per cent admitted they’d considered officially changing their bub’s name, just two per cent of those surveyed actually went through with it.

According to Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts, it’s not all bad news if you are suffering some regret.

"Choosing your baby's name is one of the first things new parents do, so in some ways baby name regret is great practice for parenting: you do a lot of hard work and research, try to please several people at once, and end up getting it wrong,” she said.

“The consolation is that most children grow into their names - and those who don't can always fall back on middle names, nicknames or (in extremis) deed polls."
