The Southside Are Getting Their Own Night Markets
Brisbane's biggest fresh food market based at Rocklea has been officially approved to include night markets.
Last month the Brisbane Markets applied to extend their permit to Friday and Saturday nights, and the council have allegedly informed them that the application has now been approved.
The Markets will be able to operate between 4pm and 10pm during the evenings, which will no doubt attract a new audience and allow them to expand their success.
The Saturday morning markets have also been approved to relocate to the existing 9180-square-metre selling area.
We wonder if they may now compete with the South Bank markets and Eat Street on the north side.
As part of the conditions of operation, they must also adhere to noise restrictions and ensure the market area is dismountable in the case of floods - like those that inundated the area in 1974 and 2011.
“The proposed market is dismountable to minimise flood damage to the development during defined flood events” the development application reported, according to Fairfax.com.
“The moveable nature of the market will also minimise the recovery time and the need to rebuild structure after a flood event.”
We can't wait to hear more about what is in store for the new look Rocklea markets!
