This Is What It’s Like To Go To A Fat-Freezing Appointment

If you’re like most people, you’ve got a part of you that you’re not so proud of.

An area that you go out of your way to cover - and have the most trouble treating.

For me, it’s my love handles, or as some people lovingly describe them - flanks.

They bulge out, they change my entire silhouette and no matter what I do, I just can’t seem to budge them.

So, when I was invited into The Harley Clinic for Non-Surgical Liposuction, I was more than a little intrigued. Many people have probably heard about fat freezing, but really, they have no idea of what’s involved once they book an appointment. Is there down time? Would it even work on my problem area? There isn’t a HEAP of information out there on it.

I aimed to change that.

I entered the building on Macquarie Street and really wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked through the door, but I was instantly met by a lovely consultant, who led me to a comfortable room. She explained that they would take before measurements and photos, so that they could track my progress efficiently.

I had one of those awesome fit3D photos taken, where a camera scans your whole body, 365 degrees, and creates a little avatar that shows you what your body looks like. It also takes note of your hip width, stomach width and a whole bunch of other body measurements, as well as your weight.

After that it was time to start the treatment. My consultant applied a cooling gel on a cloth that was to protect my skin. The CoolTech machine looked like a paddle and was positioned on each love handle. It was a little strange. It kind of ‘sucked’ the love handle into the crevasse of the paddle, which can feel a little tight. Then, the machine cools that area slowly to around of -8 degrees Celsius, and soon you can’t feel anything at all.

It’s kind of cool! It’s then, my consultant told me, that your fat begins to freeze.

So there I sat, flicking through magazines for around 45 minutes before my consultant returned and removed the paddles from my love handles. They were red, but I couldn’t feel a THING!

She then took a little machine that looked a bit like a pestle, or a mini jackhammer - but don’t worry, it wasn’t scary. You see, this just further works to break down the fat cells that you’ve just frozen. Ordinarily these fat cells, now frozen and effectively killed, would shed naturally from the body over the next 12 weeks - and the added manoeuvring of the cells via mini jackhammer tool, simply improves the process.

Prompting the fat cells to die and shed, and for you to achieve a more even result. It’s fascinating to experience. After that I was out of there.

No down time, no hard at-home treatment, just 12 weeks to monitor my body’s changing silhouette.

Technology these days, eh?
