Armed Man's Attempt To Steal Car At Foiled In Minutes

A man who forced his way into a Brisbane home and stole a car at gunpoint was caught within 20 minutes, thanks to a sharp-eyed off-duty policeman.

The man entered the Sunnybank Hills home and forced the woman occupant to hand over her car keys at gunpoint about 9.10pm on Wednesday.

After the police were alerted to the car theft, an off-duty officer spotted the car in Doolandella about 9.30pm and directed his colleagues to it.

The 29-year-old was arrested without incident, with a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovering a loaded sawn-off shotgun and an axe. He is due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Thursday on six charges.
