Brisbane Aged Home 'Gastro' Deaths Rise To Seven
A gastro outbreak at an aged care facility in Yeronga, Brisbane, has resulted in seven patient deaths.
Two elderly residents passed away when the outbreak first happened earlier in August.
While the care facility has attempted to contain the bug through increased hygiene procedures and isolation of infected patients, the death toll has continued to rise.
Regis Yeronga has denied claims from family members of residents that the deaths are in part due to poor hygiene and understaffing.
The facility also released a statement at the time of the first two deaths denying they were a result of the gastroenteritis outbreak.
No follow up comment has been made.
This comes as a second facility in the suburb of Wynnum had 15 patients suffering from gastroenteritis in June.
Thankfully, no casualties were as a result of that outbreak.
