Brisbane On Alert For Wild Weather If Cyclone Forms
As a tropical low pressure system develops off the east coast in the Coral Sea, Brisbane residents are urged to prepare for wild weather.
The possibility of the system developing into a cyclone has Brisbane bayside residents on alert.
Redland Bay City Council has joined the Sunshine Coast in offering sandbags today and tomorrow at a range of locations for residents to prepare.
"The system has a high chance of intensifying into a Tropical Cyclone during Tuesday and head South to South-West across the Coral Sea towards Queensland," Higgins Storm Chasing stated.
"The system is likely to remain a category 1 or 2 cyclone on Wednesday which will be named Linda.
"It is then expected to near the South East QLD coast late on Wednesday into Thursday."
Warnings are in place ahead of strong winds and dangerous surf as the pressure system approaches the Queensland coast.
Meteorologists will continue to monitor the storm to see if it upgrades to a category 1 or 2 system in the next 48 hours.
The weather warning comes after northern Queensland has been slammed by storms and severe flooding in the past week.
