Brisbane theatre teacher charged on child porn

The former head of a Brisbane community theatre school has faced child porn charges in court.

Anthony Francis Millett, 76, last month voluntarily resigned as the principal of the Brisbane Arts Theatre's college of theatre practice after he was charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material.

Millett appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday where a bail condition preventing him from having indirect and direct contact with children under 16 was removed.

In court, lawyer Nick Dore said the condition was archaic, draconian and unnecessary because Millett posed no risk to anybody.

"Catching the bus could set him up to fail," Mr Dore said.

The court heard police seized old hard drives which allegedly contained child exploitation material, including a video, during a search warrant against Millett.

As part of his remaining bail conditions Millett is prohibited from accessing the internet other than for internet banking, employment purposes or as part of his tertiary studies.

His matter will return to the same court on October 31.

Brisbane Arts Theatre is a self-funded performing arts community based in the city that offers acting workshops to both adults and children.

Its website states it provides workshops for children aged between eight and 16.

Executive officer Nathan Pamenter declined to comment as the matter was before the court but confirmed Millett was no longer an employee.
