Drug Fuelled Driver In M1 Police Chase Now In Induced Coma

A man who allegedly went on a high-speed rampage on Queensland's biggest and busiest highway is in an induced coma due to his level of drug intoxication.

The 35-year-old man has been charged with several driving, drug and assault offences after the incident on the Pacific Motorway at Gaven on Monday.

He was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, but is instead in Gold Coast University Hospital under sedation due to his level of drug affectedness.

Police allege the man had taken liquid fantasy.

The man was arrested after police responded to several calls from the public about a speeding motorist running other vehicles off the M1 on the northern end of the Gold Coast.

It's alleged the man also attempted to force several police vehicles off the road before the car he was travelling in ran out of petrol at Gaven.

As police arrested the man, he then allegedly assaulted two officers and attempted to steal a police car before he was detained.

The officers were treated at hospital for minor injuries, but have since been released.

It's expected the man will face court on Wednesday.
