Elderly Man Found Dead In Lift After More Than A Month

An elderly man who became stuck in a lift in a parking garage at the start of July was there for more than a month before his body was discovered, reports the Denver Post.

Isaak Komisarchik was last seen at the nursing home of which he was a resident on July 5; it's believed that the 83-year-old had recently been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, and it's not clear how he went missing.

What is known, though, is that Mr Komisarchik pressed the emergency button twice when the lift first got stuck on July 6 but the local fire department didn't receive emergency calls on either occasion.

"Something is not right," Denver Fire Department spokesperson Greg Pixley told Buzzfeed.

Mr Komisarchik's body was only found after numerous residents in the apartment building complained of a terrible smell coming from the lift, which was in an area under renovation construction and was not actively in use.

Officials believe that he died "sometime between the first morning in the elevator and August 2" and a cause of death has yet to be determined.

"The elevator wasn't inoperable," John White, spokesman for Denver police, told the media. "How he got in there and when he got in there is obviously what we're trying to figure out."

A criminal investigation is ongoing.
