Fears This Brisbane Shopping Centre Could Close For Good

There are fears an East Brisbane shopping centre could close for good after two major tenants shut up shop.

Spar supermarket and The Fishmonger’s Wife have moved from the Lytton Road centre ahead of plans to widen the major thoroughfare.

Last year Council announced Lytton Road would be upgraded from four to six lanes. Stage one would see the stretch between Latrobe Street and Canning Bridge transformed.

While the plans have been welcomed by many, the development has left local shops concerned about the impact it would have on business.

Talking to Quest News, centre manager Louis Toumbas said while there was no immediate plans to sell up, they would reassess the situation once the road upgrades finished.

He said he understood the need to upgrade and that it was the right decision by Council.

There have been 53 serious traffic accidents in just five years along the Wynnum Road traffic corridor.
