French Tourist Charged Over Death Of QLD Miss World Finalist

A French tourist will front Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday over the fatal car crash that killed Elyse Miller-Kennedy.

The tourist was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road in North Queensland when they collided with Miller-Kennedy's vehicle.

The accused is a 24-year-old woman, there was also a 20 year old in the tourist's car at the time of the incident.

Miller-Kennedy sustained injuries to her head, chest, arm and leg, with news emerging that she passed away surrounded by family and friends a week after the crash on August 12.

The teen had only received her driver's licence five weeks before the incident, but authorities were certain there was no wrongdoing on her behalf.

The crash happened near her hometown of Dimbulah, in Queensland's north, 110km from Cairns.

“Elyse was driving back from the Mareeba direction and was on the correct side of the road,” Senior Constable Lee Chamberlain said at the time of interview.

“Our inquiries show that the two vehicles came together on the Dimbulah-bound lane, so she was where she should have been at the time.”

The 17-year-old Queenslander, Miller-Kennedy, was recently a Miss World Australia finalist.
