The Three Queensland Favourites At Today's Melbourne Cup

It's Melbourne Cup day and while it's a great excuse to dress up, it's also the one day of the year when we all become horse racing aficionados!

Queenslanders have chosen their three favourites and here's why you might want to choose them today!

Although his jockey Damien Oliver was suspended earlier this year, the winner of last year's Cup is a firm favourite for this year's race.

Now being ridden by Italian Frankie Dettori, Almandin, owned by a five time cup-winner and dual cup-winning trainer, may just beat the odds against him!

"Obviously I am very grateful that I have the ride on Almandin, although it was in difficult circumstances. I am very sad for Damien Oliver," Frankie Dettori wrote in a blog for a sponsor.

While you may choose this horse because his name is the sweetened version of 'Marshmallow', this horse is anything but soft.

Marmelo won the Prix Kergolay, which has led other winners of this race to a successful day at the Cup!

He is a new favourite among the punters and may become the first-ever British galloper to win!

Red Cardinal

Dual cup winner Kerrin McEvoy will be riding Red Cardinal, the horse that has seen wins in Germany and the US.

He has been unbeaten in two starts over 3200m so looks like he could be in for a very good chance at the win!
