How Cyclone Debbie Will Affect Brisbane

Tropical cyclone Debbie is making plenty of headlines as she edges towards the north Queensland coast line.

Wind gusts of 190km/h have already been recorded around Hamilton Island with the tropical cyclone expected to cross the coast south of Bowen around midday.

For those of us watching from Brisbane, we’re being told we can expect to see the effects of TC Debbie at the end of the week.

“It will turn to the south-east and track down to through central highlands and the central coast, there will be a lot of rain associated with that,” BOM forecaster David Crock told our own Monique Dews in the Newsroom.

“We are expecting at this stage some of that rain and shower activity will be quite heavy and will reach the south-east on Thursday and into Friday.”

He warned Brisbane may also experience some strong winds from TC Debbie.

Those winds could see windswell at our beaches according to Coastal Watch, however “the specifics on how big and when are still difficult to pin down”.
