How Stephanie Scott's Family Want You To Celebrate Her B'Day

Today would mark the 28th birthday of the late Stephanie Scott, instead of celebrating, her family spent yesterday watching her killer learn his fate.

And while her family are now glad the court case is over and they can now mourn the death of their loved one away from the public eye, they had one request.

Addressing the media yesterday, Stephanie's mother, Merrilyn, has asked everyone who has been touched by her story to celebrate the life of her daughter at 3pm today (14th October) with a cup of tea and a mint slice biscuit.

“The past 18 months have been the most difficult and harrowing time,” she said.

"So much has been taken away from us. Stephanie has had everything taken away from her.

“The public interest in this tragedy is understandable. Stephanie embodied all that was good about human kind.

"She made a tangible difference to the lives of so many people. Stephanie would want us to resume our lives."

And while appreciative of the public support and the number of strangers who have rallied behind their family in their time of need, they welcome the opportunity to remove themselves from the spotlight and adjust to their new 'normal'.

“We need to be kind to ourselves and let the music and fun back in," she continued.

"We need to be able to fade from public view, to mourn our beautiful girl and work our way through our grief.

“Tomorrow we begin to celebrate Stephanie’s too short, amazing life. This should be her 28th birthday — the second one we celebrate without her.

“We will be having a cup of tea and a Mint Slice biscuit at three, please join us."

Vincent Stanford was jailed for life without parole yesterday for the rape and murder of Stephanie Scott in April 2015.

It was also revealed the "callous" and "disturbed" man had stalked three women, including a 12 year old girl, prior to the murder and had over 1800 photos of the minor.

Stanford worked as a cleaner at a local school, Leeton High, where Ms Scott taught.
