Husband And Wife In Family Gassing Were On Verge Of Divorce
It has been revealed the husband and wife who died along with their two children and dog in a suspected murder-suicide were on the verge of divorce.
Fernando Manrique, 44, Maria Claudia Lutz, 43, and their children Elissa, 11, and Martin, 10, died after their family home turned into a deadly gas chamber.
Family members from their home city of Bogota in Colombia, have told a local paper of the couple’s marital problems.
Speaking anonymously, the source close to Ms Lutz said the stress of raising their autistic children left things “very tense”.
While they were unable to confirm if she was filing for divorce, they told how she felt alone as her husband became distant.
According to NewsCorp, Police are investigating “domestic tension” between the couple.
It is believed Ms Lutz was unaware of Mr Manrique's intentions, however Police have been unable to rule out a murder-suicide pact.
Neighbours have reported seeing the father working on the roof of the family’s home over the weekend.
While it seemed innocent enough at the time, it now appears he was installing an elaborate system that would later pump gas throughout the home.
The alarm was first raised after Ms Lutz and her children failed to show up at school on Monday morning.
The 43-year-old has been described as a “warrior” by family after fighting to ensure her children had a normal life.
