Man charged over murder of Jayde Kendall
A friend of Queensland teenager Jayde Kendall has been charged over her murder and will appear in court on Friday.
The 18-year-old was charged on Thursday night with murder and misconduct with a corpse by interfering after the 16-year-old's body was found in a rural area at Upper Tenthill, about 17km from Gatton where Jayde lived.
Jayde was last seen getting into the man's car outside Lockyer District High School two weeks ago.
He was initially questioned and released but was taken into custody after her body was located on Thursday night.
The man had told police he picked Jayde up, but later dropped her off safe and well.
Police weren't able to corroborate his story.
The man is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
A friend of Queensland teenager Jayde Kendall has been charged with her murder almost two weeks after the schoolgirl went missing.
The 18-year-old was arrested on Thursday afternoon following a tip-off which led police to her body at a property at Upper Tenthill, about 17km from Gatton, where Jayde lived.
He was subsequently charged with murder and misconduct with a corpse by interfering and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Jayde was last seen getting into the male friend's car outside Lockyer District High School on August 14.
Detectives had questioned him at length after establishing he was the last person to see her alive.
Earlier in the investigation, police indicated he told detectives he had picked her up from school, but later dropped her off.
However, detectives were unable to find anyone who could corroborate his story
Detective Acting Inspector Matt Howard has urged the community to respect Jayde's family's privacy.
"As you can imagine, they are very upset to hear this news," he said of the arrest.
"It's been a very complex investigation ... and it's very hard on investigators and, obviously, the family, but it's led us to this result today."
He said a property owner had contacted police after noticing something amiss and Jayde's body was found during a search.
On Wednesday, a candlelight vigil had been held for Jayde in the hope she would be found safe and well.
"The love and support of family and the whole community has been overwhelming," Jayde's aunt Jenny Morrissey had written on Facebook about the vigil.
