More Severe Storms Predicted To Lash The South-East

The first day of summer is set to be as fierce as ever with severe storms expected to follow a steamy hot day.

The temperature is predicted to hit 33°C in Brisbane and as high as 35°C for Ipswich before the clouds roll in this afternoon.

According to Higgins Storm Chasing there's a high chance of thunderstorms for much of the coast between Rockhampton and Coffs Harbour.

"It's a 50/50 forecast based on achieving 34c maximum temperatures and moisture levels holding, but if it goes it will go very hard!" they shared.

The "worst case" scenario will see large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

The flip side - we'll get some rain and a non damaging storm.

The forecast comes as the south-east prepares for a heatwave starting Friday.

Temperatures are expected to 36°C in Brisbane on Friday, while Ipswich will creep up to 39°C and Gatton will get to 41°C.
