A woman suffering from severe post-natal depression reportedly threw her two-month-old baby from a moving car before trying to kill herself by jumping from the vehicle.
32-year-old American woman Nicole Stasio is currently being hospitalised for severe depression after killing her newborn daughter and attempting to commit suicide in bali.
Locals discovered the infant with life threatening injuries less than two kilometres from where the Californian woman leapt out of the vehicle. The two-month-old died approximately seven hours later.
South Denpasar police chief Nyoman Wiarajaya said the woman travelled to Bali with her parents in July. Stasio gave birth on the Indonesian island in September, shortly after her parents had left the country.
"She gave the impression that she was unmarried and her family preferred that she give birth to a child abroad, like wanting to avoid something," he said.
"She refused to answer when they [the parents] asked about her baby’s father."
It is believed that the 32-year-old and her baby were being driven to Bali's international airport before she changed her mind about returning to the USA, demanding she be taken back to Ubud. The driver told police that she was sitting silently in the car before the tragic events unfolded.
There are reports that Nicole Stasio was suffering from severe post-natal depression, and is currently undergoing treatment at Bali Mandara Hospital. As a result, police haven't been able to question the woman.
