Saratov Airlines flight 703 has crashed and killed 71 people on board just minutes after taking off from Domodedovo airport in Moscow.

The passenger plane was carrying 65 passengers and six crew members when it crashed on Sunday near the town of Ramenskoye.

Russia’s transport minister, Maxim Sololov has confirmed that there are no survivors.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear and investigators have stated that there were no reports of a technical malfunction before the plane went down. Possible causes are now being looked into including weather conditions and pilot error.

Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin has spoken out saying that his thoughts are with the familes affected by this tragic incident.

“The President has instructed the government to set up a special commission over the plane crash in the Moscow region,”said Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov, according to Tass news.

Fight 703 was travelling from the Russian capital to Orsk city. According to Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands who is reporting live from Moscow, “Witnesses said they saw a burning plane falling out of the sky.”
