NSW Child In Hospital After Eating Food Laced With Drugs
Police have charged a NSW father with assault and neglect after his nine-year-old girl was admitted to hospital unresponsive and with bruising on Monday.
Doctors at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle were told that the child had eaten food containing illicit drugs and may have been given non-prescribed medication, police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The girl remains in hospital as a forensic analysis determines what exactly she consumed.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at a Raymond Terrace home on Monday evening by the child abuse squad and detectives will allege he assaulted the girl.
The man, believed to be the child’s father, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was denied bail at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday.
He will appear in the same court on May 27.
Investigations are ongoing.
