Off Duty QLD Cop Saves Couple From Machete Wielding Man
An off-duty policeman has saved a couple from their machete-wielding neighbour who hacked his way into their North Stradbroke Island home.
Queensland police say the man and woman, both 59, barricaded themselves in their bathroom in a desperate bid to escape the frenzied attacker on Tuesday night.
Hearing the violent disturbance, the passing officer bravely confronted and distracted the man, who was smashing through the bathroom door, until additional police could arrive and arrest the 44-year-old.
The male home owner was treated for a 15cm cut to his face, which he received after the machete blade went through a door.
The neighbour was charged with one count each of wounding, enter dwelling with intent, serious assault police and wilful damage.
He will appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
