Qld Driver Drove AROUND Hit And Run Victim
A teenage boy is lucky to be alive after a bizarre hit and run in Townsville.
Police say the driver of a black SUV deliberately accelerated towards the 14-year-old as he and a friend walked along a street in suburban Currajong on Monday night.
The boy was hit despite efforts to leap out of the vehicle's path. He's been taken to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
His 21-year-old companion managed to jump to safety and wasn't hurt.
The injured boy was left lying in the middle of the road and the offender drove around him to flee the scene.
Police say it's clear the driver deliberately sped towards the pair at one point.
But it's not certain the motorist intended to hit them, and may have struck the boy while trying not to crash into a parked car.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
