QLD Government Back Brisbane School's Shoe Detentions
The Queensland government is backing a Brisbane school which handed out detentions to more than 100 students for wearing the wrong shoes.
The Gap State High's uniform policy angered parents, who said they couldn't afford to discard black leather shoes that were acceptable in previous years.
But Education Minister Grace Grace said students and parents had been warned about the policy enforcement over the past two weeks, prior to Monday's detentions.
She said the uniform policy was formulated by the school in conjunction with the P&C and understood there had been no changes to the policy since 2004.
A meeting of the school's P&C is scheduled for next Monday night, when parents are expected to voice their concerns in person.
