QLD Rail Worker Killed Overnight In Brisbane

A tragedy has occurred overnight that has resulted in a Queensland Rail worker being killed.

The track maintenance worker was reportedly struck by a passenger train at Petrie station just before 10:30pm last night.

According to Channel 7, a 64-year-old man was rushed to hospital with critical injuries but unfortunately he died on arrival.

QLD Rail Chief Executive Officer Nick Easy made the following statement:

Queensland Rail can confirm a tragic incident occurred on our network last night involving one of our staff members,” he said.

“At 10:26pm, a Queensland Rail employee was struck by a passenger train service at Petrie station.

“The employee was working as part of a track maintenance team and has sadly passed away.

“I want to express my heartfelt sympathies to the man’s family and friends and Queensland Rail employees who I know will also be devastated by this incident.

“Safety is and will always be our number one priority and we are currently working with investigators, including the Rail Regulator, to examine the cause of this incident.”

The incident had minor impact on certain train services earlier this morning but has since been resolved.
