Qld Sex Offender Captured Near Sydney After Taunting Police
Dangerous sex offender Damien Kennedy has been captured south of Sydney after taunting police on social media to "come get me".
Kennedy had been on the run since he ditched his tracking device at Salisbury, south of the Brisbane CBD, on Monday.
Queensland Police confirmed the 28-year-old was apprehended in Wollongong, south of Sydney, about 2pm on Wednesday during a routine traffic stop by local NSW highway patrol.
Footage of the arrest shows Kennedy sitting on a kerb, handcuffed next to the same silver 1999 Hyundai Sonata with Queensland registration that police said he may be travelling in.
His capture comes after Kennedy taunted police on social media, tagging himself in Rockhampton on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon and posting the words: "Come get me morther f***ers (sic)".
Queensland detectives will not travel interstate to seek Kennedy's extradition to Queensland.
Kennedy was on supervised released after serving jail time for rape and assault with attempt to commit rape.
