Queensland's Experiencing A ‘Winter’ In The Middle Of Summer
It may sound like a strange one, but Queensland is currently experiencing a ‘winter’ – even though it is the middle of summer!
Water temperatures have dropped to chilly winter levels thanks to a rare weather pattern according to the Courier Mail.
Known as the Ekman Transport, the winds push the warmer water on the surface of the ocean out to sea.
As a result, the water at the depths, which are far cooler, rise up to the surface.
The phenomenon means water temperatures off the south-east coastline are up to 4C cooler than normal – much like the temperatures experienced in June!
So if you give out a little yelp when running into the water at the beach, you can tell everyone it’s completely justified…
