Australia, But We’re In The Middle Of A Spider Epidemic

The fact is, and I’m deeply sorry about this, is that we are in the middle of a spider epidemic, with more species being named in addition to the huge array we already have.
Though still spiders, the two new species are actually quite beautiful.
Described as ‘peacock spiders’, the Maratus sapphirus and Maratus nimbus.
Australia’s foremost peacock spider hunter, Dr Jurgen Otto calls them ‘cute’, not scary.
Due to their habit of wiggling and posing, he likens them less to poisonous devil creatures intent on paralysing you and then sucking out you innards, and more to, “kittens and puppies”.
