A 17-year-old youth has been charged after a policewoman's finger was bitten in Queensland's Gulf Country.

The teenager was arrested by police for possessing a dangerous drug on Christmas Day at Mornington Island in the state's northwest, allegedly biting the female officer's finger following his arrest.

He appeared in Mornington Island Magistrates Court on Wednesday on multiple charges, including one count of serious assault of police, and has been remanded in custody to reappear next month.
