Telstra CEO Apologises For Triple Zero Meltdown

Telstra's CEO has said sorry to people across the country, after a lightning strike in country NSW saw phone calls to Triple Zero unable to get through.

Emergency Services first noticed the problem around 2 o'clock on Friday morning.

The issue wasn't fixed until lunchtime.

Police, Ambulance and Fire representatives said on Friday morning, they don't know how many calls went unanswered, or whether anyone was hurt or even died as a result.

Questions have been asked of Telstra and how such a major outage could happen.

"We're all very concerned to ensure that the emergency services system works," Andy Penn said.

"We had a particular set of circumstances here that has affected some services, and for that I deeply apologise."

People needing help across Australia are being assured the problem has been fixed, and calls to Triple Zero are getting through.

Anyone experiencing difficulty can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
