The Same Sex Marriage News Australia Has Been Waiting For

After multiple failed attempts to get laws passed through parliament, Aussies are now being told same sex marriage is closer than ever before.

It comes after senior government minister Christopher Pyne revealed same-sex marriage could be a reality in Australia “sooner than everyone thinks”.

It is believed that members of the Liberal party feel that delivering on same sex marriage is the only way to secure the next election.

Mr. Pyne revealed the information at a meeting of Liberals in a Sydney bar last Friday, and a recording of the speech has been obtained by Advertiser columnist Andrew Bolt.

Mr Pyne told the gathering that “we have to deliver a couple of things and one of those we’ve got to deliver before too long is marriage equality in this country."

"I think it might even be sooner than everyone thinks’.’

Before the last election, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said all voters would have a say through a plebiscite before any changes to the Marriage Act were considered.

Labor, which supports same-sex marriage, is opposed to the plebiscite believing it could harm gay people.

Mr Pyne’s spokesman was asked about his remarks after the speech, but they denied there were imminent plans to legalise gay marriage.

“The minister did not say action on marriage equality was imminent,” he said.

“The minister said that while marriage equality had failed to materialise over the last two years it would become a reality eventually.”
