SSM Campaigners Being Given Voters' Personal Details

A new app is giving campaigners access to thousands of voters' personal details in the run-up to the same-sex marriage postal survey.

The Freedom Team App gives the No side "turn-by-turn" directions to the address of Australians who have yet to return their ballot with the aim of targeting homes which may be undecided.

"The app will provide will provide turn-by-turn directions to your nearest neighbour who is yet to hear from the campaign," an email from the Coalition for Marriage said.

"And it will give you talking points for when you get to the door."

A feature of the app allows users to mark addresses they've visited as "not home", "refused", "bad info" or "survey" and claims to require door-knockers be within 16 metres of the home to categorise it.

The Coalition say that the list of addresses was built with data from the Australian census and the "freely available" Geocoded National Address File.

It comes less than two weeks after a text message from YesEquality was sent to millions of Australians, prompting many to express concerns over their privacy.
