Three Underage Teens Charged After High Speed Police Chase
Three teens who allegedly stole a Mercedes from a home, south of Brisbane and then led police on a high-speed chase at the weekend, have been charged.
Police allege a 16-year-old boy stole the car from a Kuraby home on Sunday and then took three girls, aged 14, 15 and 17, on a joy ride to Brisbane before swerving to avoid tyre spikes and crashing into a truck on the Pacific Motorway near Springwood.
The driver was treated for a non-life threatening head injury at Princess Alexandra Hospital with a string of offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and burglary.
"At around 9pm, Polair tracked a stolen vehicle allegedly travelling at high speed along the Ipswich Motorway and then onto the Pacific Motorway," the police report states.
"The vehicle entered the Clem 7 tunnel towards Fortitude Valley and across the Story Bridge and then back onto the Pacific Motorway, allegedly still travelling at speed.
"Officers deployed a tyre deflation device at the Logan Road exit however the driver allegedly attempted to drive around it before colliding with a truck.
"As a result of the crash, both front tyres were damaged, forcing the vehicle to come to a stop at Springwood where four people were taken into custody."
The 14 and 15-year-old girls were each charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle while the 17-year-old was released from custody without charge.
