Toddler Suffered Alone While Stepfather Went For Sex

Mason Lee was just 21-months-old on the night he was left alone with a five-year-old boy while his stepfather went to have sex, a court has heard.

The Caboolture toddler would die later that night after an earlier blow perforated his bowel, resulting in faeces leaking into his abdomen.

Despite becoming increasingly sick and vomiting from the infection, the toddler was denied the medical help that would likely have saved his life.

William O’Sullivan now faces court, charged with manslaughter along with Mason’s mother Annemarree Lee and Ryan Hodson, who was staying in their home at the time.

It’s alleged that O’Sullivan, who was Mason’s ‘primary caregiver’, changed his version of events on the night several times.

However, police say footage shows he left the toddler for an hour when he drove to Mason’s mother’s home for sex.

“CCTV footage shows the defendant leave the children unsupervised after 10pm on the night of Mason's death,” Prosecutor Sergeant Liesl Stephenson told the court.

“He returned with his friend about 11.30pm.”

Just an hour later paramedics arrived at the Caboolture house where the little boy had died.

Sgt Stephenson alleged that in the days following Mason’s fatal injury, O’Sullivan went so far as to “rub Mason’s face in his own vomit”.

He is also said to have taken a photo of the toddler next to his vomit with a toy puppy on his neck.

“He takes the time to photograph a 21-month-old Mason dying in vomit,” Sgt Stephenson said.

“That’s the extent of care that this defendant has shown to a child who is clearly dying.”

O’Sullivan was denied bail with the Magistrate, James Blanch, commenting that he would be safer in prison.
